ARTIMISNIN is isolated from a natural plant ARTIMISIA Annua or sweet wormwood and its derivatives are synthesised to form a group of drugs that possess most rapid action against Plasmodium Falcparum Malaria. Chemically, artemisnin is a sesquiterpene lactone containing unique peroxide bridge. The derivatives along with combination of other drugs is extensively used to cure different forms of malaria. It is also undergoing early research and testing for treatment of cancer.
